Program:

Escondido Sunrise Member Ann Van Leer presented our program on the programs and projects of the Escondido Creek Conservancy for which Ann serves as Executive Director.

Ann shared a very informative video of the Creek and its natural value. The Creek continues from up near Lake Wohlford all the way to San Elijo…

Ann shared some statistics that the conservancy area includes 2,432 acres of valuable watershed property owned by the Conservancy, and works with another 7,000 plus acres that are preserved within its boundaries. The agency focuses on habitat restoration and education and has a stated goal of acquiring and/or saving another 1,000 acres…

Ann Van Leer addressing Escondido Sunrise members…

Restoration efforts include removing invasive plants, creating and maintaining trails, habitat restoration and community outreach. A long term goal is restoring the Escondido Creek Channel in Grape Day Park to its natural state. The conservancy has received a grant of $355,000 to begin work on the transformation of the concrete-lined creek through the Park…

Another major focus of the Conservancy is education; the Conservancy works with twenty schools in the EUSD focusing on grades 3-6 and working with the students through an outdoor education curriculum.

Individuals can donate to the Conservancy via their website; escondidocreek.org/donate
