Escondido Sunrise Rotary; “Meeting to Serve our Community via Zoom; and the Palomar Heights Development; What it Means for Downtown Escondido”……… May 21, 2020

Editor’s Note…

As we all try to conduct our professional pursuits in new ways, it’s appropriate to remind ourselves of who we are as a Serving Organization… Our accomplishments, our fellowship and the reminder of our many successes is valuable as we await the time we can gather together again…

So, we met via Zoom… On May 21… 29 Sunrise Rotary members talking about service and connecting through fellowship in new ways…

President Brian didn’t need a gavel, and, he called the meeting to order with a ‘Tinkle’… Still no bell… The president is sending out a plea for the return of the bell for President Elect Christ Miller…

Actually, Brian wants it back before he leaves his post as our esteemed President…

President Brian commented that this was our eighth meeting via Zoom… Me thinks he likes leading a meeting in his PJs… Won’t it be fun to have an online demotion event??

Membership Chair, Joe Holtz led the pledge to our nation’s Flag

Program:

Linda Bailey introduced our program; Ninia Hammond and Gil Miltenberger of Integral Communities, the developers of the Palomar Heights Project in downtown Escondido…

The Palomar Heights project will be situated on the property that once contained the downtown Palomar Hospital campus…The project to date includes several workshops with the Planning Commission and the City Council…

Depicted in this photo is the Northeast corner of East Grand Avenue and Valley Blvd.  The focal point of the Palomar Heights development…

Ninia spoke about the effort to integrate the plan into the Downtown Escondido Specific Plan and the project’s role in fulfilling the east end of the Downtown Districts of the Specific Plan…

The project encompasses 14 acres with significant topographical changes. There are planned to be 510 total units, of which approximately 2/3 will be rental products… The project, when approved will begin the six-month demolition effort in 2021…

Of particular interest to the Sunrise Members at the meeting was the size of the project and its impact on the Grand Avenue and Valley Blvd. area. Particularly is the treatment of Valley Blvd., on both sides and the corner of East Valley Parkway and Valley Blvd…

These photos show the projected development along those active frontages of the property…
