Escondido Sunrise Rotary; “Meeting to Serve our Community via Zoom; and the Escondido Library Serving During the Pandemic…” June 4, 2020

Editor’s Note…

As we all try to conduct our professional pursuits in new ways, it’s appropriate to remind ourselves of who we are as a Serving Organization… Our accomplishments, our fellowship and the reminder of our many successes is valuable as we await the time we can gather together again…

So, we met via Zoom… On June 4… 20 Sunrise Rotary members talking about service and connecting through fellowship in new ways…

President Brian didn’t need a gavel or a bell… He brought the meeting to order with a his now, too familiar… ‘Tinkle’…

Past President Rich Aeling led the pledge to our nation’s Flag

Past President Jack Anderson offered an invocation…

The Continuing Saga of President Brian's Bell and Gavel

President Brian proudly shared that his beloved bell had been stolen 5 times… Not an achievement to be taken lightly; he does want it back before he leaves his post as our esteemed President…

President Brian commented that this was our tenth meeting via Zoom… Me thinks he likes leading a meeting in his PJs… Won’t it be fun to have an online demotion event??

President Brian displayed evidence of a ‘Termite Attack’ at his domicile…

But, he had a ‘Yuuuggge’ gavel on hand… His real ‘shillelegh’…Beware Nancy, the shillelegh is an Irish weapon… Our President is becoming dangerous as his term comes to an end…

Program:

John Schwab introduced Dara Bradds the City Librarian for Escondido. Dara came to Escondido from New Hampshire; John has worked closely with her as a member of the Library Trustees, appointed by the City Council to serve in an advisory capacity to the Council on all matters relating to the Library.

Dara spoke about the Library closing to the public on March 16th… Adapting quickly to the need to close while serving the needs of the Escondido community for Library information and materials. During the time of the COVID shutdown, the Library has only cancelled two community programs; all others have been presented through on-line media.

Dara Bradds, City Librarian speaking to Sunrise Rotarians via Zoom…

The Library website has proven to be the ‘go to’ resource for use of Library services. Partnering with other libraries, materials have been made available to Escondido residents. A special ‘Hoopla’ data base was created to provided streaming services and up-to-date resource availability…

Programs that have continued during the pandemic include; Kids writing clubs, virtual author chats, Second Saturday Concerts, and ‘Zook’ book clubs.

The staff has worked diligently to keep service ‘virus free’ including a video resource on the curbside service by which books can be returned and picked up without the possibility of viral contamination.
