Escondido Sunrise Rotary; “Our First Attempt to Meet On-Line”…… April 2, 2020

Editor’s Note…

As we all try to conduct our professional pursuits in new ways, it’s appropriate to remind ourselves of who we are as a Serving Organization… Our accomplishments, our fellowship and the reminder of our many successes is valuable as we await the time we can gather together again…

So, we met via Zoom… A test run on Wednesday April 1… And, no “April Fooling”… It worked pretty well…

President Brian didn’t need a gavel, actually, he needed to be able to connect to the meeting in both Audio and Video…

This screen shot of our first meeting shows President Brian in name only, no video and no audio… See the upper right Zoom participant… ‘Brian Murphy’… In name only…

Past President Dave Herbert is shown on this screen shot; he’s enjoying the meeting while reclining on his sofa… So, join us for a casual meeting..

Our on-line meeting was technically managed by Richard Agnew… Thanks for that Richard… And you can see, that Richard even prompted President Brian to call in for assistance in connecting…

Rotarians Still Serving:

Some service and caring accomplishments were shared at the online meeting…

Support for the North County Food Bank:

With a donation from Sunrise Rotary, and some good old elbow grease, support was provided for the Food Bank as it continues to care for community needs while this virus challenge remains…

This photo depicts Sunrise Rotarians and Friends with our $2,000 donation to the Food Bank…

Shown here are other Escondido Rotarians; ‘Sunrise’ and ‘After 5’ who joined together to help pack food gifts for those in need… Thanks to all who served…

Support for the Escondido Police Cadets:

Many Sunrise Rotarians will recall that annually we support a training academy for the Escondido Police Cadets. The Cadet members are a great help to ESR, especially in the management of our Grape Day 5K event…Due to the virus challenges, this year’s academy will be delayed, but our support continues. SGT Chris Leso is our contact with the Police Department; he will attend an upcoming meeting, and intends to become a member of Sunrise Rotary…

Support for Neighborhood Health and Other Health Care Providers:

Sunrise Rotary and the After 5 Club have again joined hands and resources to provide face-shields to local health care providers. District grant funds were available for our match and our partners at Cabins by the Lake Charitable Fund provided 450 face shields to Neighborhood Health… Additional face shields were provided to Elizabeth Hospice and to Graybill Medical…

Thanks to Past President Rich Aeling, Doug Clark of the After 5 Club and Past President Mike Dunlap of the Cabins by the Lake Charity for the financial support for this important local health need…

Possible Meal Support for Health Care Workers

Dr. Joe Holtz was in contact with Eric Monforte at Cocina, and they are planning a meal program to serve health care workers and first responders, As the program is better defined, we discussed our opportunity as Sunrise Rotarians to provide financial support for this effort… Stand by for more information.

Sunrise Rotary Scholarship Program:

Our Sunrise Rotary Scholarship program is alive among graduating seniors in the Escondido Union High School District.  Even without classes at this time, many of the seniors are planning for their future educational pursuits… The deadline for submittal of applications to our program is April 17 at 5:00 PM… If you know of a counselor or administrative leader in the EUHSD, please encourage them to suggest our program to seniors…

Online Meetings:

Watch for emails defining the next online meeting. The system works fine, dependent upon your technical support available through your PC or laptop…

Past President Mike O’Malley has a ‘control room’ setup in his office that reminded one of the ‘Star Wars’ or ‘Star Trek’ nerve centers…

This screen shot shows Mike’s tech center…

SEE YOU SOON… ON LINE OR IN PERSON…..
