President Dave presided over our meeting in fine fashion; Past President Tony Criss  led our Patriotic Salute to our great Flag, and Past President Jack Anderson offered an invocation.

President-Elect Dave Herbert announced the need for a representative from Escondido Sunrise to serve as our ‘Peace Representative’ to the District Peace Committee. District Governor Mel Gallegos is forming the committee…

 

Late News Flash!! Past President Constance Larsen has agreed to serve as the Escondido Sunrise representative to the Peace Committee… Thanks Constance!!

 

Past President Mike Dunlap received word that our Australian friend, now deceased, Owen Tassicker, left a bequest to the Rotary Foundation of $216,000 Aus. …. Thanks to Owen’s family for that news…

 

Past President Constance Larsen was in the Galapagos Islands and brought some treats for our esteemed president; a scarf/bandana and, of course, a shot glass…

 

Past President and Foundation Chair, Kevin Svetich announced our standing in per capita giving in District 5340… Escondido Sunrise is in 4th place with $408 per capita just a scosh behind Rancho Bernardo at $416… Encinitas Coastal discovered a Club bit-coin reserve; they’re at $948 and Carlsbad is at $526…

Past President Kevin also injured his shoulder and arm, patting himself on the back for his third term as Chamber of Commerce Chairman… Thankfully (for Debbie anyway), his reign/term ends on June 15… 

The Chamber is hosting it’s annual dinner that night at the California Center for the Arts… Also that night, our own Past President Rich and Donna Aeling are being recognized for their outstanding support of the Chamber and the Escondido Community… Congrats Rich and Donna!!

Past President Rich helping raise funds for our Tijuana house-build projet; Rich and Donna are clearly treasures in our entire community!!

 

 

Program:

Past President Jack Anderson introduced today’s speaker, City Manager Jeff Epp. Historians know, that Jeff was a member of Escondido West Rotary, and President in 1990-91… So we had a chance to welcome back one of our own.

Jeff shared the recent ‘State of the City’ video which touts Escondido’s history, economic and community assets and strength. The video showed many aspects of our community, and Jeff proudly shared that the quality presentation was completed by City staff members…

Jeff spoke about the City Council’s emphasis for the community based on it’s Council Action Plan… A coordinated effort with the City staff and the Community in a four-part plan to effectively sustain Economic Development, Community Improvement, Fiscal Management and Public Safety. Jeff continued his presentation speaking doubt the City’s efforts to provide quality and affordable housing, deal with the issue of homelessness and plan for the pension costs impacting the City…

His presentation concluded with a lively question and answer session that could have gone on for some time…
