Program:

Past President Mark Hoekstra briefed the Club on the status of our endowed scholarship at Cal State University San Marcos.

Past President Mark addressing Club Members regarding our goal of a $20,000 endowed scholarship at CSUSM…

Mark spoke about the opportunity we have to determine the criteria, establish qualifications for recipients, and connect with the university in a permanent fashion. Additionally, we will be able to strengthen ESR’s community ties, get to know our scholarship recipients, create the opportunity for mentoring with our students hopefully leading to possible internship opportunities…

Our goal is an initial fund amount of $20,000 which we hope to grow to $30,000; and, along the way, providing one or two $1,000 annual awards.

Currently, there is a committee of 12 members that have volunteered to help bring this great project to fruition. Along the way, our goal is also to establish a Rotaract Club on the CSUSM campus.

 Next Week’s Program:

Our Speaker tomorrow is Edwin Oketch.  Many of you know Edwin as he is a speaker at RYLA and made his fist trip to the United States three years ago when he visited our club. Edwin was born and raised in Kibera.  Kibera is the second largest slum in the world and is home to two-thirds of Nairobi’s population. You will hear about Edwin’s journey from desperation the founding of the Touch Kibera Foundation.  Prepare to be moved and inspired.
