Editor’s Note…

As we all try to conduct our professional pursuits in new ways, it’s appropriate to remind ourselves of who we are as a Serving Organization… Our accomplishments, our fellowship and the reminder of our many successes is valuable as we await the time we can gather together again…

 

So, we met via Zoom… On August 13…  Sunrise Rotary members talking about service and connecting through fellowship in new ways…

 

President Chris opened the meeting… Even with a gavel and a bell…  23 Sunrise Rotarians joined the Zoom meeting…

Past President George Beitner led the pledge to our nation’s Flag…

Sunrise Rotarians Serving, and Announcements: 

Fundraising Event for Police Officer Brett Byler…

Past President Rich Aeling announced that there is a fundraising event set for Escondido Police Officer, Brett Byler… Brett is fighting brain cancer… The event is at the Sierra Madre Cantina (Felicita & Centre City Pkwy in the Von’s Center) on Saturday August 22 from noon to 4 PM… Dine in or Take Out; a portion of the proceeds go to the family as do all of the tips… Rich stated that Sunrise Rotary would donate some of the funds we collected for the ‘food for first responders’ effort…

District 5340 Global Grants

Past President Mike Dunlap reported on the Grants Committee meeting; Sunrise Rotary will focus on a grant for Nairobi support in the 2021 grant year… A combination of our funds, with District funds, with Rotary Foundation funds can add up to $30,000 for our focused project…

District Governor Steve Weitzen will Join us on September 17

District Governor, Steve Weitzen will attend our Sunrise Rotary meeting on September 17… Plan on attending via Zoom!!

Highway 78 Club to Join with Other Clubs for a North County Service Project…

Planning is underway for a September 20 joint clubs service project… Watch for more information to come…

Grape Day 5K Fundraising Teams are Set!!

President-Elect Richard Agnew and Past President Jeff Johnson shared information about our upcoming ‘virtual’ Grape Day 5K event…

The event will be virtual, and fundraising sites are set with the ‘Classy Website’…

Participants signing up for the event, which will take place October 24 (but a participant can complete their 5K whenever they choose) will receive their shirt, medal and other goodies by mail. A single option sign-up will include their registration and all goodies for a single charge of $25…

 

 

Past President Jeff Johnson shared that ‘key presentation points’ will be provided to each member to use as we raise funds… These points will emphasize the community value of what we do as a Club with the proceeds from this great event…

Past President Rich Aeling and his bride, Donna, celebrated their anniversary enjoying the wine and beautiful scenery in the Willamette Valley in Oregon…

 

President Chris informed members that former City Council member Tom D’Agosta passed away recently…

 

Program:

Gloria Lefler introduced this week’s program, ‘Feeding San Diego’… Executive Director Karri Kolarik was with us via Zoom… Also from the organization was Melissa Sayviseth, Director of Development & Corporate Relations for the charity…

 

Karri Kolarik sharing information with Sunrise Rotary members on the valuable food services conducted by ‘Feeding San Diego’…

 

 

 

Karri described the goals of ‘Feeding San Diego’… Those being; Getting food to people, Keeping food safe, and rescuing food from landfills…She described the various sources of food for their program, including grocery stores, restaurants, and caterers… 

 

The program is strongly based on volunteerism; the volunteering of the food by the providers, and the food delivery by individual volunteers within a highly coordinated program…

 

 

The importance of ‘Feeding San Diego’ is highlighted in the slide below signifying the hunger challenge among San Diego residents at large and specifically with children in the county…

 

 

President Chris thanked Karri for the presentation, and encouraged Sunrise Rotary members to consider this organization for charitable gifts. Contact with Treasurer Bob Burson can facilitate your gift of $50 which will be combined with support from the Club…
