Program:

Beverly Marchetti

Beverly was born in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and described her childhood middle class with a two-parent home and siblings.  Her father was a truck driver and mother a waitress.  Her mother immigrated to the US from Paris, which Beverly took for granted as there were regular family vacations to Paris to visit her mother’s extended family.  Beverly was the only one of her siblings to leave Pittsburgh.
Beverly became a licensed nurse in 1974  and held a 45 year career in the field.  Her specialty was Critical Care, the ER, Trauma Unit, and began the Rapid Response Program.  She worked at Palomar Hospital for 15 years as the Trauma Unit supervisor, then transferred to Orange County. Currently, Becky is writing a book of self-reflection highlighting how far the nursing profession has come since 1974.  A story through the lens   of her experience.
In 2020, Becky contracted Covid and made the decision to step away from her profession.  Because she enjoys caring for and serving people, she continues serving others through real estate. This is where she met Kendra, her Escondido Sunrise Rotary Sponsor.  She is looking forward to serving as a volunteer locally.   She has experienced the joy of helping others through volunteering in nursing services.  She has served in Haiti after the earthquake and helped Afghan families in Texas decimate in their new country (approximately 10,000 people).  She still serves as health care provider, enjoys community focused organizations and joined rotary to continue giving back to community.  She currently is a member of the non-profit P.S. Someone Cares, nursing group that raises money for single parents going to nursing school.

Marco Perez
Born in Bay area to immigrant parents, a father from Mexico and mother from Puerto Rico.  Marco lived in Santa Rosa where he participated in the sport of soccer.  His father was a role model for Marco.  There were several instances where his father would pay for the underprivileged youth’s sports fees, food when travelling, and provide transportation.  Marcos’ father told Marcos that it was important to share time, talent, and treasure with those who were struggling as his father felt blessed to be able to share.
Marco stated that one of the lowest points in his young life also served as a blessing that led him to where he is in his career now.  He had been awarded a sports scholarship to a college but failed to follow through with contacting the school.  He was asked to give the scholarship to another qualified athlete.  This led him into a season of depression but decided to use his talents and become a youth soccer coach.  This set him on a course to serve youth that led him to gain employment at the Boys and Girls Club of San Diego after relocating to Escondido.  This is where he met his wife while they both attended Palomar Junior College. When Covid hit in 2020, he was one of several employees that were laid off.  He took this time to focus solely on school, graduated with degree in sports journalism and gained employment covering SDSU sports.  He subsequently returned to the Boys and Girls Club post-Covid as a site supervisor at mission middle school.  He is grateful that Rotarian Dave Luizano invited him to join the club and is excited about being an ESRC member after experiencing firsthand the impact the organization has to families through Christmas shopping and the bike giveaway.
He finished his presentation stating, “I wake up every day and get to go to work.  I value the relationship with the youth who see me as one they want to share their life with - an extended family.”
