As we all try to conduct our professional pursuits in new ways, it’s appropriate to remind ourselves of who we are as a Serving Organization… Our accomplishments, our fellowship and the reminder of our many successes is valuable as we await the time we can gather together again…
So, we met via Zoom… On April 1 … Sunrise Rotary members talking about service and connecting through fellowship in new ways…
President Chris opened the meeting… But, without his Presidential Bell…
Heaven Forbid… The Presidential Bell is missing…
Based on these photos, the Bell is on life support, suffering from the ChiComm Virus…
Our beloved Bell is lamenting its current condition, and pleading for a rescue…
One asks, “Will President Chris unleash the ‘bell-finders’ to bring the bell back healthy and ready to Serve Above Self???
Even with our Presidential Bell missing, a number of Sunrise Rotarians joined the Zoom meeting… Nice job all of you for joining us…
Today’s meeting was a ‘hybrid’ meeting, with President Chris ‘broadcasting’ from All Star Signs with Past President George Beitner at his side. The hoped-for plan is to look to in-person meetings possibly accompanied by a virtual piece for those not able to attend…

Rising Star Student Assisted with College Transfer…
Club Secretary, John Schwab reported that one our ‘Rising Star’ students from Escondido High School had a family challenge that might have impacted her college enrollment… Fortunately some support was found through Rotary in Fresno and the student is enrolled at Fresno State with her scholarship support intact…

Samantha Miller Knocks ‘Em Dead in High School Golf Competition…
President Chris proudly announced that Samantha had some great golf outings recently; a 46 and a 48 in her nine-hole meets… Seems that she is in a position to teach Dad a thing or two about golf… Nice playing, Sami!!

Michael Cohen of the Pacific Institute is a Sr. Research Analyst, with extensive background on the Salton Sea. Introduced by Past President, George Beitner, Mr. Cohen shared detailed information about the history and challenges of the Salton Sea and the Colorado River Basin…

Starting with a historical view of the Sea, Michael shared that the Salton Sea was formed in 1905 when the Colorado River broke through some natural barriers and flooded the low lying area in the Imperial Valley.
The Salton Sea is the largest lake in California, and the shallowest. Many of the changes over time to the highly ‘mineralized’ lake have been caused by the agricultural use of water in the Imperial Valley.
Environmental issues in the region also are impacted by dust from agricultural activity… All of the impacts have negatively affected the ecology of the lake and its ability to support wildlife as a refuge.
Many options have been considered as to ways to maintain and reinstate water levels… All of those plans have long range impacts, which are important both to the lake’s future as well as the health issues affecting residents of the Imperial and Coachella Valleys…
As in many situations like the Salton Sea, political challenges, funding and long term commitments to solutions are a challenge. The care of the Colorado River Basin, and its environmentally sound future require money and a concerted and sustained leadership effort…
