Escondido Sunrise Rotary; “Continuing to Meet via Electronic Connection”……… April 9, 2020

Editor’s Note…

As we all try to conduct our professional pursuits in new ways, it’s appropriate to remind ourselves of who we are as a Serving Organization… Our accomplishments, our fellowship and the reminder of our many successes is valuable as we await the time we can gather together again…

So, we met via Zoom… On April 9; 22 Sunrise Rotary members and one guest…

President Brian didn’t need a gavel, and, he finally was able to connect to the meeting in both Audio and Video…

Our on-line meeting was technically managed by Richard Agnew… Thanks for that Richard… And, Richard is prepared to support all of our attempts at joining the on-line meetings… Look for his email with details and links to log on to the upcoming Zoom meetings…

Guests and Visitors:

Doug Clark of the ‘After 5’ Rotary Club joined us… “To see how this all works in an on-line meeting”… Welcome Doug

Mike shared this photo recently of an aerial view of San Felipe…

Support for Neighborhood Health and Other Health Care Providers:

Sunrise Rotary and the After 5 Club have again joined hands and resources to provide face-shields to local health care providers. District grant funds were available for our match and our partners at Cabins by the Lake Charitable Fund provided 450 face shields to Neighborhood Health… Additional face shields were provided to Elizabeth Hospice and to Graybill Medical…

Past President Rich Aeling shared that some Personal Protective Gear, namely face shields, may also be sent up to the Meadowbrook Retirement Community Health Center…

Possible Meal Support for Health Care Workers

Dr. Joe Holtz shared that this project had not yet been finalized…

Sunrise Rotary Scholarship Program:

Our Sunrise Rotary Scholarship program is alive among graduating seniors in the Escondido Union High School District.  Even without classes at this time, many of the seniors are planning for their future educational pursuits… The deadline for submittal of applications to our program is April 17 at 5:00 PM… If you know of a counselor or administrative leader in the EUHSD, please encourage them to suggest our program to seniors…

Support for Interfaith:

Past President Barry Baker reminded us of our long term support for Interfaith, specifically our monthly service to the Veterans Program… They still are providing food for homeless; meals are packed each morning for the clients’ breakfast and lunch. Volunteers are needed … It’s an early day commitment, with work beginning at 0730… Contact Barry to volunteer. Sunrise Rotary decided to donate $500 to the program…

Mexicali Support:

Past President Rich Aeling shared again that our annual project in Mexicali is cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic. There are still needs in the community, and our Rotary partner, Califia Rotary Club needs support; Sunrise Rotary will contribute $250 US to their community programs…

Support for Downtown Escondido:

Many members will recall that way back on March 12 (when was that anyway?) Escondido Sunrise was a to support the lighting of the ‘Giving Arch’ in downtown… In addition to rain, the Coronavirus pandemic reared it’s ugly head and that event was cancelled…

Well, the Giving Arch is alive and well…

A day time view…

And, a nighttime view with the lighting taking full effect…

This downtown belongs to all of us. Support the businesses that are doing all they can to survive during this challenging time… Take out some chow… Be ready to support them when the economy begins working again…

To all; be safe and be well…. God Bless those men and women that carry the load at our medical facilities, and God Bless the first responders… May our governmental leaders be wise, thoughtful and smart as this pandemic is overtaken by our hard work and collective support…

Online Meetings:

Watch for emails defining the next online meeting. The system works fine, dependent upon your technical support available through your PC or laptop…

SEE YOU SOON… ON LINE OR IN PERSON….. Next meeting; Thursday April 16; 7:30 AM… Check Richard Agnew’s email for the Zoom Link…
