Escondido Sunrise Rotary; Meeting to Serve our Community in Person and via Zoom; and Welcome Justin Gray and Alexandra Keagan with the Pacific Lyric Opera

As we all try to conduct our professional pursuits in new ways, it’s appropriate to remind ourselves of who we are as a Serving Organization… Our accomplishments, our fellowship and the reminder of our many successes is valuable as we seek new opportunities to serve…

We met again in person at the Chamber of Commerce… Great to enjoy the fellowship again and see all your smiling faces…

As a Club, we honored our nation with a salute to our Flag and an invocation was offered

First Official Business: Transfer of the bell and gavel to Tina Pope from Richard Agnew. Call To Order: President Tina Pope called her first in person meeting to order at 7:37am. A Word From Our President: Tina expressed her gratitude to all the Rotarians that stepped in during her physical absence from the meetings, giving special thanks to Chris (____) and Richard Agnew. She laid out some of the goals for the upcoming year including increasing membership and challenged the Rotarians to work as a whole in recruiting 5 to 10 new members.

Tina then relayed a heart felt “Thank You” from Tina Inscoe whose precious mother recently left to be with the Lord. Tina appreciates the flowers and the kind words she received from the members. We continue praying for Tina and her family.

All kinds of fun and service and fun…
Pictures are worth a thousand words…

Jack Anderson shared pictures of his three grandsons ages 6, 9, and 12. When Jack learned that his son and daughter in law would be going back to work he graciously volunteered to take the boys for 4 days…4 VERY long days. They ate non-stop and would never wear out even after a full day of being at the Midway Maritime Museum and spending hours swimming in the pool. Jack is still recovering and is rethinking his strategy for next year. Maybe dropping them off at summer Day Camps?

Rich Aeling shared a picture of his wife and family celebrating the 4th birthday of his granddaughter. The proud grampa was smiling ear to ear and was beaming from how dear his family and this little one is to him. Rich also shared a video of a Padre game he attended with a friend who would not let him leave early as he generally does to avoid traffic. Rich admitted it was a great decision to stay as the Padres won the game at the bottom of the 9th inning after a long and painful tie

(Here’s where Tina’s phone rings and interrupts the meeting. She was fined $15  Uh Oh!!!

Tina also spoke about her first post- surgery outing where local healthcare organizations, including Neighborhood Health, local dignitaries and Interfaith served and cared for the homeless

Jack Anderson took us down memory lane with a picture of Kevin Svetich dancing with his partner at the “Dancing With Our Stars” fundraiser event. Many shared how well Kevin danced. Kevin’s facial expression from reminiscing about his dancing days hint that he may be opening up his own dance studio when he retires. Rotarians will get a 50% discount for signing up

Making the best of every situation, Jim Ponder put on his tourist hat and took in the sights of Fort Wayne Indiana after his return flight was delayed for 2 days. He came bearing several gifts for President Tina.

John Schwab thanked everyone for their continued support of the Greater Escondido Chamber of Commerce Rising Star Program. The generous donations from Rotarians and other local businesses have made it possible to increase the dollar amount and number of scholarships given out to local high school students.

Chris thanked those who answered the call to help a local struggling family by donating funds to pay for the Jr High aged son, Caleb, to take the school’s Washington trip. The Go Fund me account has reached it’s ¾ mark. There is still time to participate. Please contact Chris for the details.

Joel Beyer presented Judy Fitzgerald with her blue badge for completing all the requirements to become an official Sunrise Rotary member.

Grape Day 5k Update: Richard Agnew reported that $58k of the $125k goal has already been met. Team “The Clash” is in the lead and there are currently 141 runners registered. Palomar Health registration will be opening up next week and is expected to significantly increase registrations.

A Moment In History: Barry gave some trivia on the history of past Rotary International Presidents and on our own. He expressed his gratefulness to all that have answered the call to serve as presidents for the Sunrise Rotary Club and exemplify, “The essence of fellowship and doing good that is beneficial to everybody.”

Program:

Gueat Speakers: Brian Murphy introduced Justin Gray and Alexandra Keagan with the Pacific Lyric Opera. Both have an extensive background in music and theatre and several organizations that include a doctoral degree the Ukranian National Music College, experience in orchestra and radio, and an extensive symphony resume’. They are active advocates for youth trying to break into the music industry. They founded the Opera Education Youth program that serve Escondido elementary and Jr High students. Justin and Alexandra explained that the opera education program also extends to adults interested in attending future concerts. They offer opera etiquette booklets on what to do when attending an opera, and narrate the opera at every quarter of the show to explain and make the story more understandable. On October 14th through 16th, and again on October 21st through the 23rd, the Pacifi Lyric Association will be presenting “Carmen” an opera be De Georges Bizet. They personally invited our Rotarians to attend the show and enrich their understanding of the opera
