Rotarians Having Fun and Rotary Events:

Our own President-elect-elect Mark Maus was pitching in a recent ‘adult’ league… President Brian mistook him for the Padres own Trevor Hoffman… I think Mark is even older than Trevor… Save the arm for golf, Mark!!

Escondido Sunrise will again provided needed items for Fisher House at Camp Pendleton. Hotel hygiene items, and consumable household supplies such as paper towels, toilet tissue, cleaning supplies and the like are welcomed by our friends at Fisher House.  Fisher House serves the families of military members undergoing medical treatment at the Naval Hospital on board Camp Pendleton… Bring items to our meetings or deliver to George Beitner’s business, All Star Signs at 1924 Mission Road, Escondido…

Announcements:

Past President Mike Dunlap shared some background on Doris Stinson, our long-time honorary member and financial angel for many community-benefit projects provided through Escondido Sunrise…

Sergeant at Arms, Gloria Leffler shared the “Pennies for Polio” drive that is ongoing each week. District 5340 wants to have a continuing impact on the world-wide Rotary effort to end polio… You can drop a dollar or a few dimes into the container each week…

The District 5340 Rotary Golf gathering will take place on February 12 at Encinitas Ranch Golf Course. The format is a two-person scramble… Tee time is 12 Noon… Confirm your participation with Past President, Scott Putnicki…

High Fives:

Past President Mike Dunlap and Nancy did some cruising in recent weeks. Mike brought some goodies for President Brian from Belize and Peru…

President-Elect Chris Miller was peddling tickets to the Farmer’s Insurance Open golf event in San Diego… The beneficiary of his hard work was his daughter Sami’s Valley Center HS Golf Team… Great salesmanship Chris!!

 Program:

Linda Bailey was our program today, speaking about the Newland Sierra residential project on the northern Escondido border. Measure B is on the County-wide ballot on March 3… The project has been environmentally assessed and approved by the County Board of Supervisors. A neighboring property opposes the development, and has undertaken a ballot initiative to place the project before the County voters.

Linda Bailey addressing Sunrise Rotarians…

Linda shared details of the project, including the number of units that are committed to be built at varying affordability ratios for families… Of the 2,100 units, over 1,300 will be built to be sold within varied affordability bands.  210 units will meet the County criteria for low income housing.

The project and the number of housing units needed within the project area…

One of the concerns raised by opponents is the potential for increasing traffic; a number of slides were shown that depict the number of jobs in the inland North County area that will attract owners in the development, as well as the number of commuters from Southern Riverside County that currently drive on I-15 each day by-passing this project… Some of those commuters are likely to relocate to the new development…

Slide depicting the employment demand with the North County Inland area…
