Editor’s Note…
As we all try to conduct our professional pursuits in new ways, it’s appropriate to remind ourselves of who we are as a Serving Organization… Our accomplishments, our fellowship and the reminder of our many successes is valuable as we await the time we can gather together again…
So, we met via Zoom… On February 18 … Sunrise Rotary members talking about service and connecting through fellowship in new ways…
President Chris opened the meeting… Even with a gavel and the familiar chime of a gavel striking a bell… 23 Sunrise Rotarians joined the Zoom meeting… Nice job all of you for joining us…
Future President, Mark Maus led the salute to our Nation’s Flag…

Support for Fisher House at Camp Pendleton
Escondido Sunrise will again support Fisher House with needed supplies. See a recent email from Past President Rich Aeling with a list of needed items. Delivery will be on Thursday, March 18… Items can be dropped off at All Star Signs (1924 Mission Road, Escondido) or Aelott Air Conditioning (812 W. Washington, Escondido)… “Better than the white glove boys”…

Past President Rich Aeling mentioned to Club Members that the “Little Jumps, Big Changes” event is taking place… See Rich or the Boys and Girls Club website to donate…
Girl Scout Cookie Sales
President Chris reported on feedback and a thank-you from Ella Olson and her cookie sales. She reached her sales goal, and 100 boxes of thin mints were sold for support of our troops…

Past President, George Beitner gave a ‘shout-out’ to Tina Pope as his father received his Covid vaccine through the auspices of Neighborhood Health…
Program:
Past President Barry Baker, a Board Member of the Escondido Education Foundation, introduced Board Chair, Carolyn Royer… Carolyn is a retired teacher, with over 32 years of classroom experience…

The Escondido Education Foundation has supported Escondido teachers for 16 years with grants supporting all levels of the Elementary District, including, individual classroom grants, school grants and district-wide grants. Over that 16 years, the Foundation has granted more than $750,000 in support of Escondido’s teachers and the students they educate…
97% of the funds they raise are allocated to direct student benefit… This year, with the implications of Covid on teachers, the grant cycle has been modified. Additionally, grants were made directly to school libraries for additional materials… Which have been used by students at home on virtual learning conditions…
One of the items the Foundation has added to schools this year are ‘pop-up’ sun shades so that outdoor programs can be provided in a shaded setting…
Suzan Reiner, a retired teacher and Foundation Board member spoke about the benefits she values as the foundation’s grants take hold in the classrooms…Seeing teams of teachers come together to seek a grant is especially gratifying…

Pam Putnicki, also a retired teacher and a Foundation Board member commented on some unique projects that benefitted from Foundation grants. One in particular, was a hydroponics science grant that enabled the students to learn about the scientific aspects of agriculture in a new way… She also was intrigued with grants that enable students to learn coding skills for our computer-related economy that the students will all encounter as they finish school…

Carolyn Royer shared some means by which the Foundation raises funds, through corporate support and an annual Fashion Show. With Covid restrictions, the Fashion Show will be deferred until 2022… However, President Chris was encouraged to assist as a model for the next show…
The presentation was closed with a commitment by Sunrise Rotary for a $500 gift of support to the Foundation…
