Program:

Monica Cannon, the Volunteer Services Director of ‘Just in Time for Foster Youth’ was introduced by John Schwab… John is also a volunteer mentor in the program. Monica shared about the ‘Just in Time’ program, serving foster youth as they are ‘aged out’ of foster care at age 18…

Monica Cannon addressing Escondido Sunrise members…

The goal of the ‘Just in Time’ program is to support the youth as they leave foster care, helping them to be Confident, Capable and Connected… A video showed many young people that have been supported by the program, describing the value of the resources and relationships that come about through this effort. Helping to create a sense of belonging as they move into schooling and work after having been relocated many times through foster home settings.

Monica brought a ‘graduate’ of the “Just in Time’ program along to speak with Sunrise Rotarians… Nathan Brunetta told a story of his family’s struggles with an addicted father and the challenges his mother had in coping with life… Ultimately, he was placed in foster care as his mother also was lost in alcoholic dependency…

Nathan Brunetta speaking to Sunrise Rotarians…

As he shared, he told us of his story ending up in a homeless situation for 7 months as a 17 year-old… The ‘Just in Time’ program provided a caring community… “just in time”… Nathan was able to understand the value of community, and overcome his personal sense of unworthiness as he discovered some new possibilities of a different life…

The ‘Just in Time’ program has offices in San Diego and Vista, working in the North County with North County Lifeline… The organization can be supported on the web at jitfosteryouth.org
