Program:

Linda Bailey introduced our program for the day… Don Underwood of Concordia Development spoke about a planned residential project called Harvest Hills, located near the San Diego Zoo Safari Park and just east of the Eagle Crest Golf Course residential area.

Don shared that the project is planned to celebrate the agricultural heritage of Escondido and the surrounding San Pasqual Valley. It is a challenging project due to access and terrain, but their plan addresses many of the challenges…

Don Underwood of Concordia Development addressing Sunrise Rotarians…

The project will develop ‘agri neighborhoods’ among luxury homes in a gated community. An organic mini farm will be created on the site that will serve the surrounding community as well as homeowners in the development.

The project provides for 550 homes in seven neighborhoods. With classic ‘Americana’ architecture, the site will provide for significant preservation of open space along with 9 miles of trails.

Plans are for an effective ‘net zero’ energy community with solar power, charging stations for electric vehicles and other carbon emission reduction measures…

Impact on Schools will be mitigated with support for the San Pasqual Union School district. And other public services will be supported with construction of a fire station on site as well as ongoing support for fire operations.

Mitigation of traffic concerns includes providing emergency egress from the isolated area, and investment in traffic controls and road widening in surrounding areas. One of the challenges of the project is coordination with various surrounding jurisdictions including the City of San Diego, San Diego County and the City of Escondido within which the project is located.
