Escondido Sunrise Rotary; “African Promise Foundation, Caring for the People of Northern Uganda”… July 25, 2019

President Brian led the meeting…

Past President George Beitner led the pledge to our nation’s flag…

Father Bill Dopp offered an invocation…

President Brian was prepared to improvise when his bell went missing recently… He put a large mallet into use… Made of walnut and white maple, he made sure we all could hear it pound the lectern clearly…

He almost ended up destroying Cocina’s lectern with his incessant pounding!!

President Brian and his mallet… (AKA a fake bell…)

But, alas the President’s bell suddenly reappeared this week…

Those pesky past Presidents… It seems that Past President Mike Dunlap missed having a Presidential Bell so much, that he just had “to spend a little time with Brian’s cherished bell”…

Brian’s bell, when missing, was protected fully by the ‘Bobcat Patrol’ at Dos Picos County Park… The site of our newest “Cabins by the Lake” charity project…

Past President Mike Dunlap… ‘Guilty as Charged” begging forgiveness for pilfering the bell…

Visitors and Guests:

Assistant Governor for District 5340, Richard Fogg of the Rancho Bernardo Club

Alexandra Keegan from the Escondido Club

Justin Gray also from the Escondido Club

Alexandra and Justin shared with Sunrise Members about their classification; both are with the Escondido Chorale, providing musical programs at the California Center for the Arts for school-age children that transforms formal opera into fun musical stories…

Alexandra Keegan explains her role in the youth musical programs… She is the musical conductor; or as the children describe her, “The one in the pit with the stick”…

High Fives and Announcements:

Attendance… There were fewer tables set this week for our great meeting… Sunrise Rotarians, Where are you??? It’s great to have a full meeting… Try to attend as often as you can; great fellowship and great programs…

Grape Day 5K Event:

Teams are actively beginning their fundraising efforts. All members are encouraged to set up their individual fundraising page which will enable all donations to be properly recorded for team credit.

As presented last week, the City is a major partner in this year’s event, allowing the start and end of the race to be held at Grape Day Park, with Broadway closed. Major sponsors are Palomar Health and the Berg Electric Foundation. The day’s activities will include ‘Tots ’N Trucks’ in the park… an event that will draw up to 3,000 children and adults… Lots of partners involved to help make this a high-impact community event….

This ad appeared on the back cover of the Escondido Recreation Guide that arrived in your home mail box this week…

Program:

Jessica Livingston presenting to Sunrise Rotarians…

The slides below show the need for assistance in Northern Uganda, and the lessons learned in providing for care in such a challenging environment…
