As we all try to conduct our professional pursuits in new ways, it’s appropriate to remind ourselves of who we are as a Serving Organization… Our accomplishments, our fellowship and the reminder of our many successes is valuable as we seek new opportunities to serve…

 

This meeting was held via Zoom due to the contagious Omicron variant of Covid… We resume in-person meetings on March 3...And, opened with a “virtual bell”…

March 19 will be a District Assembly, in person at Liberty Station… All are welcome. Our participation enables Sunrise Rotary to compete for District Matching Grants from the Rotary Foundation…

The After Five Rotary Club is having a fundraising gala event entitled, “The Great Gatsby” celebrating ten years of philanthropy; and honoring Rotarian and Retired Escondido PD Lieutenant, Al Owens with their first “Spirit of Community” Award… Saturday February 26th at the Morgan Run Club in Rancho Santa Fe… Past President, Rich Aeling has some tickets…

The Route 78 Rotary Club is hosting its 8th Annual Mariachi Festival with Tacos, Tequila and Concert on April 10…

President Richard shared ‘thank you notes’ from Solutions for Change and the Escondido Education Foundation…

Past President, Barry Baker, a member of the Education Foundation Board commented on the important benefit donations such as Sunrise Rotary’s mean to the classroom teachers in the Elementary District…

 

Also, John Schwab shared photos of the play equipment and benches that were installed at Serenity House… Our financial support was expanded by funds from the “Cabins by the Lake” charitable foundation…

Neighborhood Health will Partner with ‘Feeding San Diego’, Providing Food for Escondido Residents Facing Food Shortages…

President Elect, Tina Pope shared that Neighborhood Health and Feeding San Diego will begin providing food support on the second and fourth Saturdays each month, beginning March 26… The program will be offered on those Saturdays each month for a two-hour period each day… More information will follow…

President Richard introduced our program for the day, Lindsay Boddicker representing the Adaptive Sports and Recreation Association… 

Lindsay, a member of the San Diego Coastal Rotary Club, brought her sidekick, 6-month old Beau… And, Beau is proudly wearing his Rotary shirt… 

The Adaptive Sports and Recreation Association serves youth and adults with special physical needs… Their programs adapt regular sports to fit the special needs of the participants…

 

The programs include tennis, basketball, and la crosse among others… Most programs are adapted to functional classifications depending on the individual’s injury or disability…

Lindsay shared the elements and rule adjustments used for many of the sports offered through the Association…

 

 

 

 

One of the important programs offered each summer is a youth sports camp…

Offered for a one-week experience, some of the activities are at Miramar College and some on San Diego Bay…

Lindsay shared a video presentation of the camp and its participants in action…

 

 

The Association also provides equipment for loan as participants’ needs change they require different sized and specifications of equipment such as wheel chairs, etc…

 

The Association also offers particular clinics throughout a year’s programming including such sports as kayaking, La Crosse and basketball… Among all sports, basketball is the largest program…
