Father Bill Dopp shared regarding the success of the vocational school in Uganda that we have supported…Over 600 students participating in programs…
Past President Mike Dunlap recently traveled to Mexico, visiting Puerto Vallarta and Cabo… He brought some Maracas for President Dave… And we thought the bell was noisy??
John Schwab shared that our last week of bell-ringing for the Salvation Army would take place on Saturday December 8… Thanks John for leading that effort to support a very worthy cause…
Past President Mike Muehl shared that his mother had recently passed away… he thanked the club for their support for him and his family… He also shared that his daughter Emily just completed another rank in Karate and now holds a black belt…
Program:
President Dave was the program today as we participated in a Club Assembly… The President reviewed many of the accomplishments of Escondido Sunrise during the first six months of his reign…
The President began his presentation by fining himself $50.00 just for the sake of a fine for the Prez… and to continue our goal of raising more money for Polio… Thanks Dave…
The first topic was our Club’s efforts towards the successful Grape Day 5K event… Raising $109,884 and providing $25,000 to the MS Association are huge accomplishments…
Then the Prez spoke about our Club’s consistent support for those victims of disasters… With Hurricane Florence and wild fires in California, we provided over $4,500 for those affected by these major disasters…
President Dave then covered our support for education and educational programs in our North County region…Including Felicita School, the San Pasqual Academy, Interact and Cal State University, San Marcos
Past President Mark Hoekstra updated members on our efforts to create an endowed scholarship at CSUSM; to date, $25,000 has been set aside for this effort…
The Prez’s next topic was youth leadership support, including RYLA, LEAD and efforts with San Pasqual Academy and the Police Cadet Program… This year, there are 60 Interact members at San Pasqual HS, and we plan to send 8 juniors to RYLA… We also supported 6 middle school students in the Rotary LEAD program…
Our next area of accomplishment is International Service. Local efforts in Mexicali and Tijuana are coupled with efforts in Kenya and Brazil…
Past President Jim Ponder added comments about our program supporting Edwin Oketch in Kenya…
And, Past President Mike Dunlap spoke about the value of Global Grants through the Rotary Foundation whereby we have supported a text book program benefitting literacy efforts in Guatemala; having funded books for an entire middle school…. And provided support for a hospice program in San Felipe…
Finally, Past President Mike noted that our Cabins by the Lake project will place cabins # 12 and 13 at Dos Picos County Park in 2019….
President Dave continued talking about how our Club is a “Hands On” Club and we pitch in to get things done… We don’t “just write checks”…
Great job to all who have ‘sweated’ a bit for the Club this year!!

And President Dave noted that we like to have fun!! With the concert in the park in Coronado, the softball game with the Calafia Club from Mexicali and other activities, we enjoy serving and playing together!!
President Dave wrapped his mid-year summary highlighting upcoming projects like the youth Bike program… and shared the community organizations that we continue to support, including the YMCA, the Boys and Girls Club, the Arts Partnership, Education COMPACT and others…
Thanks President Dave for reminding us of all that we do in the Escondido and North County communities… We know we are stronger as a group…
