As we all try to conduct our professional pursuits in new ways, it’s appropriate to remind ourselves of who we are as a Serving Organization… Our accomplishments, our fellowship and the reminder of our many successes is valuable as we seek new opportunities to serve…

 

We met again in person at the Chamber of Commerce… Great to enjoy the fellowship again and see all your smiling faces…

 

As a Club, we honored our nation with a salute to our Flag led by Past President, Mark Hoekstra…

 

And, an invocation was offered by Past President, Jack Anderson…

President Richard shared that a thank you note was received from the Boys and Girls Clubs, acknowledging our donations of bikes last Christmas; Chris Leso commented also on the work of the Police Department to provide helmets and bike licenses…

 

Rotary at Work Event a Success…

Several Escondido Sunrise Rotarians worked along with volunteers from Neighborhood Healthcare to provide food packs from Feeding San Diego…

Hard-working Sunrise Rotarians distributing bags of fresh fruit and vegetables as well as non-perishable goods…

 

 

And, Kendra Koed served graciously as the “Onion Lady” in spite of her recent foot surgery…

 

Honoring Past President, John Masson along with the Palomar College Foundation…

Thanks to all the Sunrise Rotary members, past and present, along with their spouses that attended the Palomar College Foundation event on May 4 at the California Center for the Arts… A moving visual presentation showing John’s engagement with the community and helping others through Rotary… And a heartfelt “thank you” from John’s wife Tricia and his children, Nick and Taryn…

 

 

Past Presidents, Rich Aeling and Mark Hoekstra suggested that Sunrise Rotary contribute to the Endowed Scholarship established in John’s memory by the College…

 

 

Cinco de Mayo at Fix Auto Along with the Chamber of Commerce…

Judy Fitzgerald shared information about the Cinco de Mayo event at Fix Auto honoring Kirk Henson and the company’s long standing role in the community…

 

 

Past President, Rich Aeling attended the event and was directly served by Kirk’s team as he experienced a flat tire upon arrival, and Kirk got him “on the road” after the event…

 

Awards from District 5340…

 

Past District Governor, Steve Weitzen was with us to present awards to, as he described Escondido Sunrise Rotary, an extraordinary Rotary Club… Steve presented banners to President Richard for all the hard work accomplished by Past President, Chris Miller last year… Unfortunately, Past President Chris was not at the meeting to receive the accolades… 

 

President Richard received club banners for Sunrise Rotary’s support for Polio Plus; Every Rotarian Every Year for the Rotary Foundation; and a “Number Three” ranking in the District for Per Capita giving to the Foundation… Our total was $584 per capita…

 

Governor Steve also presented an “Achievement Award” to Past President, Kelly Mayberry for her leadership in the RYLA Program…

Past President, Rich Aeling announced the end of year Rising Star Program Scholarship Awards…

 

 

Program

Glynna Hoekstra introduced our program for the Day… Representing the Valley Center Stampede Rodeo, were Bill Wagner and his daughter, Madison…

 

The Valley Center Stampede Rodeo will take place over Memorial Day weekend, and, this year the rodeo is sanctioned by the Professional Cowboy Rodeo Association… This is the first year the Rodeo will have the stiffer competition with PRCA Cowboys, and appropriate prize money…

The Valley Center Stampede will have a parade later in the season, but this event, being on Memorial Day, will also honor military members from the area….

Accompanying Bill was his daughter, Madison, a statewide winner in the Rodeo Queen competition… Madison is graduating from CSUSM and will be pursuing a graduate degree at UCSD.

Madison spoke about the value of the Rodeo activities for the local Rodeo Queen candidates, and the opportunities to compete state-wide among other local Rodeo queens for scholarships…

Bill shared a couple of videos showing the Rodeo action, and the family fun that takes place…

 

Glynna and Bill both encouraged Rotarians to volunteer to support the Rodeo event, including work as ticket takers, concession support and general assistance…

 

 

The Rodeo site in Valley Center is at the Community Center, and each year significant effort is required to setup the arena and the bleachers… The Valley Center Stampede Rodeo Association is a not-for-profit organization and hopes to have their own arena some day…
