Past President Jeff Johnson reminded those scheduled to help serve beverages at the American Heritage Car Show on Saturday, May 26 at Grape Day Park
Past President Jeff also proudly shared that his son Ross just received his Masters Degree… And that his son Brian, a 1st LT in the Washington National Guard just received a new assignment at an Armory in the Seattle area… He will relocate from Pullman WA (East of the Cascades) where he has been serving in an ROTC assignment at Washington State University… Congratulations Papa Jeff and Mom Kathy!!
President-Elect Dave Herbert announced that Randy and Maryanne Furtado had just joined the Palomar Mountain Fire Watch Team… Way to Go Randy and Maryanne!!!
Rorie Johnston announced that the Chamber of Commerce’s Grand Avenue Festival was a great success on May 20; and that the chamber had award 14 scholarships to area high school students… She thanked Escondido Sunrise for our support of the scholarship program…
Past President Tony recently traveled to Texas… While there, he found a great pair of socks to share with President Dave… Mighty fine, Cowboy!!
Program:
Today we had an opportunity to recognize our RYLA students from San Pasqual High School. Past President George Beitner, also serves as an Alumni Coordinator to assist in planning the RYLA camp experience. Serving along with George are Past Presidents, Jim Ponder and Kelly Mayberry.

Attending our meeting were three of the six RYLA students. Each shared their experiences at RYLA and the impact they experienced while spending the weekend with 300 other high school juniors from throughout District 5340.
Carina Ramos shared her anxiety and excitement in meeting new friends from many other high schools; her inspiration was the understanding that were many opportunities to bring about change in the world…
Axael Arzate talked about the awesome lessons learned from the many outstanding guest speakers… He was especially intrigued with what he experienced on the ‘culture walk’… He also said the ‘welcoming reception’ was overwhelming as so many students he didn’t know yet, were excited to have him join them at camp….
Julia McCullock was hesitant at first when she was separated from her school friends, but came to know so many outstanding new friends from all over the county… Being forced to make new friends in an environment of trust was especially meaningful for her…
Tina Pope, a member of the RYLA selection team, and a first-time facilitator learned a lot about the young people maturing in our high schools… She also learned some practical skills from her ‘family’ about “using her smart phone”… Way to go Tina!!
