As we all try to conduct our professional pursuits in new ways, it’s appropriate to remind ourselves of who we are as a Serving Organization… Our accomplishments, our fellowship and the reminder of our many successes is valuable as we seek new opportunities to serve…

 

We met again in person at the Chamber of Commerce… Great to enjoy the fellowship again and see all your smiling faces…

 

 

As a Club, we honored our nation with a salute to our Flag…

 

And, an invocation was offered by Past President, Jack Anderson…

Proud Great Grandpa, and Past President, Barry Baker introduced his first great grandchild… Baby Austin is the grandson of Barry’s youngest daughter…

 

 

 

Middle School Text Books for Guatemala…

Past President, Mike Dunlap reported on the valued use of Escondido Sunrise’s $2,500 donation to purchase text books for middle school students in Guatemala… Mike explained that the students pay a small fee each year which is used to replace the books over time…

Also included were thank-you notes from the students…

 

 

Scholarship Awards Program for Graduating Seniors in the Career Technical Education Curriculum at all of Escondido’s High Schools…

 

Escondido Sunrise’s scholarship program was launched this year, and eight graduating seniors in varied fields of Career Technical Education were honored at this meeting…

Students from each of the District’s High Schools competed for the awards; the future fields of study for the graduates include; electrical installation, diesel mechanics, cosmetology and barbering among others.

The students were each awarded a $750 scholarship which can be used for tuition, books, transportation and related expenses…

The honored students are: Valerie Urban, David Gaspar, Emmanuel Chavez, Daisy Flores, Mariano Orozco, Anthony Zaragosa, Irvin Soria and Roland Honer…

Assisting with the presentation of the awards were School District Trustees, Tina Pope and Dane White,,,

 

District Superintendent, Dr. Ann Staffieri was also present to honor the students and thank Sunrise Rotary. She also spoke about Career Technical Education and the value it brings to so many students in the District as they prepare for education and careers after High School…

Past President, Brian Murphy shared that one of his prize furniture pieces will be displayed at the Del Mar Fair 

 

Palomar College to Conduct Live, In-Person Graduation…

Past President, Chris Miller proudly announced that Palomar’s Commencement Ceremony will be live and in person for the first time in two years…

 

 

Program

Kim Henson introduced the program for the day… Representing the Fisher House at Camp Pendleton and speaking about the support Fisher House provides to families of service members undergoing medical treatment, was Vicky Powell-Johnson, the manager of Fisher House at Camp Pendleton…

 

Vicky has a background in hospitality management, having overseen on-base hospitality facilities on Guam when she was there with her active-duty husband… Since returning to the States, she has managed the Fisher House at Camp Pendleton…

Vicky spoke about the home-like atmosphere that greets the service member’s family as they stay at Fisher House doing their loved one’s hospitalization… She expressed gratitude for the donations Sunrise Rotary makes each year to support the operations of Fisher House…

 

Vicky spoke about the comfort provided to the families staying at Fisher House… Such that it becomes their “home away from home”… It is not a hotel, but a home with all the comfort that is valuable in caring for the families as they care for their service member during medical procedures…

There are 92 Fisher House installations throughout the world; all located adjacent to military hospitals…

 

The Fisher Family Foundation saw the need for these facilities, and provides the funding for construction… The operation of the facilities is funded by the Department of Defense…

 

The Fisher House at Camp Pendleton opened in 2015…

 

Since 1990, Fisher Houses throughout the world have served over 430,000 families for 11.5 million guest-nights…

Since 2015, Camp Pendleton has provided 11,750 nights of lodging and home like stays for family members…
