Escondido Sunrise Rotary; Meeting to Serve our Community via Zoom; and “City Council Member Tina Inscoe with an Update”…May 6, 2021

As we all try to conduct our professional pursuits in new ways, it’s appropriate to remind ourselves of who we are as a Serving Organization… Our accomplishments, our fellowship and the reminder of our many successes is valuable as we await the time we can gather together again…

President Chris opened the meeting… But, without his Presidential Bell…

Heaven Forbid… The Presidential Bell is still missing…

The President thinks his bell may be near an iconic San Diego landmark, the LDS Temple in University City…

Is this a real or only a “wishful” outcome…

City Council Member, Tina Inscoe, representing Council District 2…

Club Secretary, John Schwab introduced Tina… Tina has a long history of serving the greater Escondido community through both professional and volunteer efforts. A graduate of Escondido High School, Tina has a heart for the arts and has worked in a number of positions with the California Center for the Arts as well as serving on a variety of community organization boards… Tina was elected to the Council in District 2, replacing Council Member John Masson…

Tina Inscoe speaking to Sunrise Rotarians…

Tina spoke about the steep learning curve that she is experiencing as a new member of the Escondido City Council. Listening too and responding to constituent concerns is her highest priority… May of those concerns related to traffic issues, homelessness and economic recovery for the City.

She represents Escondido as she serves on committees for the San Dieguito River Park and the California Center for the Arts among others. Tina shared some upcoming issues the Council will be considering including the ‘American Rescue Plan’ and what that Federal Government support will mean to Escondido. She also talked about upcoming consideration of the next year’s budget…

Tina was also pleased to tell us about the background of the City Manager Designee, Sean McGlynn, coming to Escondido from Santa Rosa, CA.

Tina was most excited to share with Sunrise Rotarians the preliminary plans for the Grand Avenue ‘Vision Project’… With planning underway and the first phase expected to begin this summer, she shared graphics of the project.

The project will be completed in phases, with phase 1 between Maple and Broadway. Included in the plan is expanded dining areas along wider sidewalks, and parallel parking on the south side of the street, with angled parking on the north side.

This is a rendering of the projected phase 1…

Much of the planning intends to strengthen the pedestrian experience and provides for nighttime highlighted lighting both along the sidewalk areas and with light strings crossing the street.

These artist renderings depicts the pedestrian perspective of the Grand Vision Project…

And, a street view of Grand Avenue...

Tina concluded her presentation with and extensive question and answer session with Club members…

Support for our Escondido Community …

Our great community and the success of its businesses is all of our responsibilities… Support the businesses that are doing all they can to survive during this challenging time… Take out some chow… Be ready to support them when the economy begins working again…

The ‘Giving Arch’ on Grand Avenue and Centre City Parkway reminds us that Escondido is a caring, giving community…

To all; be safe and be well…. God Bless those men and women that carry the load at our medical facilities, and God Bless the first responders… May our governmental leaders be wise, thoughtful and smart as this pandemic is overtaken by our hard work and collective support…
