Escondido Sunrise Rotary; “The Escondido Sunrise Rotary Scholarship Program is Unveiled”… February 27, 2020

The Bell Has Returned!!…

President Brian was blessed with the return of his precious President’s Bell.  

 

 

Then, lo and behold, his gavel went missing… Thankfully his head is attached to his body at the neck…

In Remembrance:

Father Bill Dopp passed away last week from a long battle with cancer… Past President Mark Hoekstra shared remembrances of Bill; most specifically as they were Sigma Chi fraternity brothers and Bill was part of the USD support for the chapter when Mark was a student and fraternity member.

Mark also commented on two occasions that were major highlights of Father Bill’s ministry; saying a Mass at the Vatican and baptizing believers in the Dead Sea…

And Past President Dave Herbert also shared some information as he and Bill had visited the Chain Foundation orphanage in Uganda… See photos with Father Bill, Past President Dave and the children at the Uganda facility.

Joe Holtz shared briefly on the delivery the Club made last week to the Fisher House at Camp Pendleton. This was Joe’s first trip to the House, and he commented about the experience and the facility… During the meeting, President Brian shared a thank-you note from the Fisher House staff…

Past President Mark Hoekstra and Tina Pope shared information about our Scholarship Program… The Scholarship Committee is planning for awards this year, and is finalizing the application materials…

The Committee, chaired by Mark and Tina includes: President Brian, Past Presidents Rich Aeling, Mike Dunlap and Jack Anderson and Gloria Lefler and John Schwab…

The Club has deposited $26,000 with the Rotary Foundation Donor Advised Fund, and Mark provided information on how the fund and our earnings will be used to honor student achievement and future educational pursuits.

 

 

 

 

The goal this year is to award scholarships in the following ways:

Two, $1,000 awards to San Pasqual High School Seniors, one of which will be active in the Interact Club.

Two, $500 awards to any students in the Escondido Union High School District that will be pursuing a post-high school vocational educational program. 

The award criteria is being finalized and will be distributed to the high schools by mid-March… Awards will be announced at the Senior Night celebrations at the students’ schools, and we expect to invite the awardees to be recognized at a Sunrise Club meeting…

 

The funds in the Scholarship Account have been building over the years with our fundraising success through the Grape Day 5K… Club members are being asked to each contribute an additional $40 so that we can minimize the use of our principal investment this first year… Contact Bob Burson with your intention to be billed for your donations…
