Program:

Todays speaker- Sgt. Chris Leso from the Escondido Police Department presenting information on the Escondido Police Cadet Program…

This program is a youth outreach explorer program that is available to youth from age 15 ½ to 20.  The program is open to both young men and women.  The cadets get an inside look at a law enforcement career.  They receive hands-on training in areas such as traffic control, enforcement stops, interviewing witnesses, search and rescue and conducting investigations into serious crimes.  Cadets also participate in special events such as assisting at sobriety check points, security at special events and do monthly ride-a longs.

The program teaches many skills including, building team work, working under stress, responsibility and time management. Most importantly, the young men and women participating in the Escondido Police Department Cadet Post serve their community in a vital and meaningful way.

Community outreach programs include mentoring grade school students, assisting at various community events, and being everyday good will ambassadors for the Police Department. The life skills developed through the Cadet program shape the leaders of tomorrow.

Officer Mike Nelson was also present at the meeting and started his career as a cadet.  We also heard from two cadets that express how much they enjoy the program and both hoped to continue into a career in law enforcement.  Escondido Police will be putting on the week-long regional cadet academy again this year.

With the help of our members and the club we presented a check to the Police Department Foundation for $2500.
