Program…

Past President, Dave Herbert introduced our speaker, Trish Boaz, Executive Director of the San Dieguito River Conservancy…

Trish Boaz speaking to Sunrise Rotary members…

The San Dieguito River Conservancy exists to protect and expand the watershed area of the San Dieguito River. Extending from its headwaters at Vulcan Mountain, the river continues to the coast at Del Mar.

The Conservancy represents the cities along the river course and the County of San Diego…  The mission of the Conservancy focuses on the physical geography of the watershed area as well as educating residents about the importance of protecting the watershed…

Trish spoke about land acquisitions that have taken place over the years, and specifically noted areas in Del Dios and Bernardo Mountain. Much of the emphasis and success in acquisitions comes about through partnerships and relationships with willing sellers. The Del Dios acquisition in particular consists of 117 acres; through a total purchase of $3.7 million dollars, $2.66 million came about through Federal and State grants.

Much of the ‘operational’ focus of the Conservancy is to rid the watershed area of invasive plants; and to reduce fire fuel as a protection for the Conservancy area and neighboring properties from wildfires…

Education is an important part of the Conservancy’s efforts and this takes place through “the Watershed Explorers Program” and the “Next to Nature” program…

Support for our Escondido Community …

Our great community and the success of its businesses is all of our responsibilities… Support the businesses that are doing all they can to survive during this challenging time… Take out some chow… Be ready to support them when the economy begins working again…

The ‘Giving Arch’ on Grand Avenue and Centre City Parkway reminds us that Escondido is a caring, giving community…

To all; be safe and be well…. God Bless those men and women that carry the load at our medical facilities, and God Bless our first responders… May our governmental leaders be wise, thoughtful and smart as this pandemic is overtaken by our hard work and collective support…
