The ‘Big Smoke’ in Las Vegas…

A number of Sunrise Rotarians visited Las Vegas for the ‘Big Smoke’… They dressed in matching jogging suits… But, one expects they did no jogging…

They did end up in a Cigar Afficianado online post… We’re sure they stood out in the crowd because of the cigars they chose to ‘burn’… Not because of their matching ‘outfits’…

Hi Fives:

A Sunrise Rotary ‘Traveler Treat’ for the President…

Kendra Koed visited the Willet Distillery in Kentucky and brought some samples back for President Richard… She even had great advice on how to chill it just right… then remove the ice cube… Lots of envious members wanted to sample the treat…

RYLA 2021 to be a One-Day Leadership Event due to Lingering Covid Concerns…

Past President, Jim Ponder, a member of the District 5340 RYLA Committee shared that the 2021 RYLA event will be in person, but will be a one-day event at the California Center for the Arts… Covid concerns were key in the decision process as the risk of a 2 plus day event with lots of group activities including overnight accommodations was a deciding factor…

Community in Unity Returns on December 9…

Past President, Rich Aeling and Member, John Schwab shared information about the return of the Community in Unity event under the auspices of the Chamber of Commerce. The evening will include the culmination of the PJ Collection Effort for kids at Children’s Hospital…

Program…

President Richard introduced Sunrise Rotary member, Doug Shultz as he has much information to share about the role of crypto currency in our financial transaction world…

Doug Shultz is an investment manager, and one aspect of investment options that he considers with his clients is crypto currency…

Doug briefly described the definition of crypto currency in that it become a person-to-person financial transaction, leaving the bank out of the process…It is nearly instantaneous as transactions occur within a cyber platform.

Doug Shultz speaking to Sunrise Rotarians...

Crypto currency’s value is similar to owning precious metals… There is currently $21 million of bit coin as a fixed supply… Thus, the value is impacted by demand for the limited supply of product. Doug described its value as similar to the Apple Store and Google Play…

Doug described a number of myths about crypto currency, and provided information and explanation to clarify and de-bunk certain myths…

Doug described the aspect of crypto currency’s use as legal tender…The purpose of crypto currency is to replace intermediaries, thus it is not favored by banks…

Doug explained the value cycle over which bit coin has gone over the past few years since its introduction into the monetary market…

Doug did end his presentation with a ‘shameless’ plug for his consulting practice and offered members opportunities to learn more about crypto currency… He also publishes a weekly blog on the various issues of the tender…
