Rotarians Having Fun, and Doing Great Things for Groups in Need:

Past Presidents John Boyce and Rich Aeling were fishing in New Mexico… President Dave offered the Four-Way Test regarding ‘Truth in Photos”… Seems John Boyce had a similar trout in hand in a past photo… I trust that where two Rotarians are gathered, “Truth Prevails”…

A future Rotarian and Sunrise Rotary President was depicted at a mighty young age… Nice that you were caught ‘behaving’ with your siblings Past President George Beitner…

 

 

High Fives and Announcements:

President Dave commented on a Thank-You received from the Escondido Education Foundation…

The President also announced the Team Captains for the Grape Day 5K Fundraising efforts; Captains are: Past Presidents Mark Hoekstra, John Boyce and Jack Anderson; also leading teams are Tina Pope and John Schwab… Thanks for being part of this important Escondido Sunrise program…

Several ESR members were traveling recently and brought goodies for our esteemed leader…

Father Bill Dopp was in Indiana and visited the ‘best college bar’ in the country…He brought President Dave a shot glass… empty of course…

Past Presidents Rich Aeling and John Boyce were fishing in New Mexico and brought some treats for the President… Rich was also in Atlanta and attended a Braves game, so some goodies were shared from the deep south as well…

 

Past President Jim Ponder was in Texas recently and brought a Lone Star beer cookie for President Dave…

And Past President Kevin Svetich traveled recently to Italy… He brought President Dave a Gondolier’s Captain’s hat… “Oh Captain, my Captain”… looks good on the President as he guides our Rotary ship to the conclusion of another fine Rotary year…

 

Past President and Foundation Chair, Kevin Svetich announced Escondido Sunrise’s current standing in per capita Foundation support. ESR is at $311 per capita and the leading club is at $430 per… A mere $5,600 separates us from being Number 1… Several members offered to make additional gifts of $100 or more and Kevin announced that an anonymous donor would match any new gifts up to $5,000…

North County Veteran’s Standdown and Programs Sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars… Speaker was Matt Foster, Commander of the Escondido VFW Post, Matt was accompanied by his wife Carrie…

Matt shared information about the services offered at the North County Veteran’s Standown held at Green Oak Ranch in Vista… Next year’s event will be held February 6-9, 2020…

 

 

All of the services focus on homeless veterans and include such services as…

Hygiene support including opportunities for clothing replacement, barbering and bathing…

 

Legal support including the court-appointed support to remove misdemeanor citations from veteran’s records…

 

 

Matt also spoke about services offered by the VFW at Palomar College’s Veterans Service Center. He stated that there are more than 5,000 veterans enrolled at Palomar, and it is estimated that 10% are homeless. Matt suggested there may be services that Sunrise Rotary could partner with the Veteran’s Center at the College…
