Program:

Past President Scott Putnicki introduced today’s program; the Escondido Education Foundation; with Carolyn Royer, Foundation President as the presenter. Accompanying Carolyn, were Foundation Board members, Suzan Reiner, Pam Putnicki and Mike Donaldson.

The Escondido Education Foundation supports teachers and programs in the Escondido Union School District (Elementary and Middle School) and grants funds for projects and programs to individual teachers, teacher teams and schools. They focus on educational needs that would not normally be met with funding from the State of California.

Carolyn Royer addressing Escondido Sunrise members…

The focus goals of the Foundation are to support programs in the areas of ’S’cience; ’T’echnology; ‘E’ngineering; ‘A’rt and ‘M’ath… or “STEAM”

Teachers or groups of teachers apply on line to the Foundation with programs and projects that have a lasting educational value to the students and the classrooms. Things that are not funded are field trips, guest speakers and one-time events…

The Board members attending our meeting provided a role-playing demonstration of the process often used by teachers and groups of teachers to seek Foundation support. In December this year, the Foundation expects to award a total of $40,000 in grants and to face his problem…Grants range in value from $500 for an individual teacher’s program/project to $2,500 for a group project to $5,000 for a program that serves an entire school.

The Foundation raises funds with an annual fashion show event and accepts donations throughout the year… Their website is escondidoeducation.org…

Sunrise Rotary presented the Foundation with a $500 donation…
