Program: “Asking the Right Questions About Mental Illness” presented by Dave Jones…

Dave presented a number of personal stories about the impact of mental illness on his family. He shared that often, the question asked, is “Why.” Dave’s experiences show the need for treatment and understanding…

Dave Jones addressing Sunrise Rotarians…

Dave shared the various aspects of mental illness that can lead to suicide; specifically, severe depression, disassociated thoughts and irrational thinking. He knows that depression is treatable and suicide is preventable. Often when suicide takes place, the question asked is ‘why’; however there often aren’t adequate descriptions and understanding of unreasonable behavior.

Dave shared statistics about suicide; the number of attempts and the number of deaths… His biggest concern is that people are unwilling to talk about the circumstances of severe mental illness that can lead to suicide, and that treatment should not all be pharmacological…
