Program:

President Elect Chris Miller introduced Craig Rush as our Program Speaker. Craig is the Director of the San Diego Office of the State of California Division of Architecture. His office is responsible for approving designs and inspecting all school construction in San Diego and Imperial Counties…

The Office oversees all K-12 school construction as well as community college buildings and other State of California Essential Services buildings. The Essential Service designation is reflective of buildings designed to withstand certain seismic loads… And, those buildings must be available to serve as shelters and operating centers when major events occur… They also ensure that accessibility codes are properly in force for public buildings…

Craig Rush speaking to Sunrise Rotarians…

Craig shared that much of the code compliance that his team and others throughout the state enforce stemmed from the Long Beach earthquake in 1933. That was the year that the legislature approved the ‘Field Act’ which dictates design controls for school and state buildings.

The San Diego office of the Division of State Architecture oversees about $12 Billion in construction projects annually… Their role is to approve design, provide inspection controls, and ensure that buildings are completed as designed…

The Office focuses on Structural Safety, Fire and Life Safety and Accessibility…They pride themselves on working with the public agency projects they oversee in a manner that is Efficient, Timely, Consistent and Collaborative as they work with a wide variety of client agencies in this region… President Elect Chris Miller works closely with Craig and his team as Palomar College continues implementing projects funded by their bond measure…
