President Elect Brian Murphy was ‘all ears’ regarding the upcoming District Training Assembly as it directly relates to obtaining matching grants from the District and the Rotary Foundation for projects… Attendance is mandatory for at least two Escondido Sunrise members for us to be eligible for grants…

Rotarians Having Fun, and Doing Great Things for Groups in Need:

A lot of valuable items were delivered to Fisher House at Camp Pendleton… Thanks to all who donated; and special thanks to President Dave, and Past-Presidents, Scott Putnicki, Rich Aeling, George Beitner and Jack Anderson for delivering the goods…

 

 

 

Past-President George Beitner ventured back to pioneer/frontier times and spent some time Axe-Throwing… No visible new hairline or creases in his forehead… so all seemed to survive the adventure…

 

 

High Fives and Announcements:

Past President Jeff Johnson shared some early details on this fall’s Escondido Sunrise Rotary 5K event. It will be held on Saturday October 12; this year’s event will begin and end in Grape Day park… Along with our event, some exciting community events will take place in Grape Day Park after the early AM 5K… Included in the day’s park activities will be ‘Tots and Trucks’ and other Harvest Festival kinds of activities…

Club Secretary Chris Miller announced that Past President John Masson will undergo surgery on Wednesday March 6… Prayers for John were encouraged for all members…

 

Foundation Report:

Past President and Foundation Chair, Kevin Svetich announced that there is always room for additional Paul Harris Sustaining members to support our Club’s goal of raising funds for the Rotary Foundation..

Kevin recognized Past President Scott Putnicki for gaining his 4th Paul Harris Fellow Award… Congratulations Scott; thanks for your ongoing generosity…

 

Program: 

Past President Barry Baker introduced the day’s program on the many programs available at the Escondido Public Library. The program was presented by Senior Librarians, Monica Barrette and Dan Wood…

Dan and Monica have different responsibilities within Library operations; Dan overseen Youth Services activities and the Literacy Program, while Monica oversees Adult Services, The Pioneer Room (archive resources0 and Media Literacy…

Monica and Dan shared a number of key items about the activities and changes going on at our City’s Library. A key measure is marketing and re-branding and an effort to penetrate the community with new Library Cards and to re-engage with residents who “haven’t  been to the Library since 4th grade”…

Programs and activities for children, youth and high school students were described as were programs for adults… 

In the area of Literacy, Dan discussed the upcoming Scrabble-a-thon and the opportunity for youth and adults to strengthen their reading and literacy skills. 

Many unique programs are underway, including evening pajama story time for working families; discounts at local businesses when your Library Card is shown; and a ‘Comic-Con’ book club, among other programs…
