President Dave shared a thank-you note from the Escondido Education Foundation for our $500 gift supporting the Mike Caston Innovation Awards Program…

President Dave encouraged Sunrise Rotarians to ‘Do a Bit More’ this year with an extra gift for Polio Plus… If you haven’t gotten around to it, contact Past President and Treasurer Bob Burson and he will add your gift to your monthly invoice…

Past President and Foundation Chair, Kevin Svetich thanked members for their Rotary Foundation gifts… reminding us that we have risen to #4 in per capita giving with District 5340… We are currently $5,500 out of first place as we rest at $268 per capita…

Kevin and President Dave presented his first Paul Harris Award to John Schwab… Congratulations John and thank you for your generosity…

 

Past President and Bulletin Editor, Jack Anderson, thanked Past President John Boyce for his outstanding support for bulletin notes and photos while Jack was gone last week… Thanks, John!!

John Schwab shared information on behalf of the Chamber of Commerce regarding the upcoming Grand Avenue Street Festival, taking place on May 19… John shared some information on the special entertainment and attractions that will be at this year’s event…

Program: 

Past President Mark Hoekstra presented a recap of the recent Board Meeting and shared the status of the Club and some thoughts on the future…

From this photo, you can see that no one leaves a Board Meeting hungry… all cravings are fulfilled…

Mark provided an update on the year’s Interact program with the students at San Pasqual HS… Many thanks to the leadership of Rorie Johnston and Tina Pope. There will be a lunch meeting on Tuesday May 21 at 11:45… All Club members are invited to attend…

Mark gave a brief update on the Club’s financial status; it appears that we will end the year with about $20,000 in the bank… Thanks to Past President and Treasurer Bob Burson for his great work managing our resources… Success for sure! President Elect Brian Murphy shared that he and Nancy will miss the International Convention, so the funds available for that trip will be used during his year…

Mark shared brief information regarding our scholarship program at CSUSM that has been seeded with a $26,000 principal amount for the endowment… Some discussion took place about some local sholarship support that would enable full control to be exercised the Sunrise Rotary…

Finally, Mark asked Past Presidents Jim Ponder and Jeff Johnson to share an update on the Grape Day 5K event… Jim reminded us that this is our major fundraising event of the year and important for all of the good that we do as a club…
