President Rich Announced the Deadline for Donations for Fisher House: March 17 Club meeting is the last day to bring needed items. This year we are serving the needs of the Fisher House at Camp Pendleton.
You may bring items to the meeting on March 17 or deliver them in advance to All Star Signs (1924 Mission Road in Escondido)

Program:
Rick Kneeshaw, a polio survivor presented a program on Post Polio Syndrome.
Rick spoke about his own bout with polio as a young man, spending a cumulative 4 1/2 years hospitalized during his first 16 years of life.
Post Polio Syndrome is an affliction that impacts polio survivors as they advance in age.
Rick works with about 600 Post Polio Syndrome individuals in San Diego and Orange Counties; whose needs vary with support needs of equipment and home improvements to enable them to function in spite of their paralysis.
Rick described the symptoms experienced by these individuals, many of which require special medical support. In his own case, he has special needs relative to anesthesia if he much undergo surgery. In his situation, even with guidance from his doc, the anesthesiologist working on his case ignored the guidance and Rick required several hours to recover from his anesthesia.
Rick commended Rotary for its efforts to eradicate polio however, he stated that 50 plus years after the last case is contracted, there will still be needs for the patient in their Post Polio years.
